Why visit Mahendranagar?
Mahendranagar — officially Bhimdatta — is the westernmost major town of Nepal's Terai and the main gateway between Nepal and the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is a warm, busy trading town with a distinctly Nepali–Indian rhythm.
Most travellers come for three reasons: to cross the border, to explore Shuklaphanta National Park with its grasslands and huge herds of swamp deer, and to experience a border-town culture few tourists see. The Dodhara–Chandani suspension bridges and the calm lakes around Kanchanpur make easy half-day trips.
